Game Overview

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is an arcade racing game developed by Sonic Team and published by SEGA. Serving as the successor to Team Sonic Racing, the game brings together Sonic the Hedgehog, his friends, rivals, and guest characters from across SEGA’s history for high-speed races across multiple dimensions.

The game’s headline feature is the Travel Ring system, which allows races to transform in real time. Rather than remaining on a single circuit, racers can be transported between entirely different worlds during an event, creating dynamic courses that change as the race progresses. Players can also customise vehicles with a wide range of performance upgrades and cosmetic options, allowing them to tailor their racing style.

CrossWorlds features a large roster of playable characters, online multiplayer, local gameplay modes, and tracks inspired by locations from across the Sonic series and the wider SEGA catalogue. Developed by the same team behind Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed and Team Sonic Racing, the game builds upon SEGA’s long-running arcade racing heritage while introducing new mechanics designed to keep races unpredictable.

Released in 2025, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds represents one of the most ambitious entries in the Sonic Racing series, combining fast-paced arcade action with extensive customisation and a celebration of SEGA’s gaming history.

This score combines:

  • 👤 Community rating of 5.0/5 from 3 reviews
  • 🟩 Metacritic score of 82/100

SEGA Universe ratings are built from the review sources available for each game.

Community reviews are submitted by SEGA Universe members and use a 5-star rating system.

SEGA Universe reviews are editorial reviews written specifically for the site and may contribute to a game’s overall score.

For games originally released on classic SEGA platforms such as the Master System, Mega Drive (Genesis), Saturn and Dreamcast, historical magazine reviews may be used to provide contemporary critic scores from the time of release. These scores are normalised to a 100-point scale before being included in the rating.

For newer releases, Metacritic scores may be used when historical critic reviews are not available.

Not every game uses the same review sources. Some games may only have community reviews, while others combine community reviews, SEGA Universe reviews and critic scores.

Each available review source contributes equally to the final rating.
