Game Overview

Travel back to a time when a lovable alien phoned home, gas cost a mere
90 cents a gallon, and everyone was wearing high-tops, leg warmers and
had big hair. This was the early 80s, and this was when video gamers
nationwide were wowed by the cutting edge graphics and sound effects of
the first three-dimensional-like intergalactic arcade shooter: Zaxxon.
Touted as the first game to put video display in perspective, Zaxxon
featured “looks” and “sounds” like actual aircraft flight, allowing the
player to command his ship just like a real fighter pilot. Dive, bank,
fly left and right, and up and down—Zaxxon had it all. Fly through
heavily armored space fortresses, strafing fuel tanks, dodging walls,
and blowing up enemy missiles and gunnery. This game is littered with
explosions. Then take the fight to the enemy fighter fleet and destroy
the aggressor ships with extreme prejudice. Blasting pixels has never
been so fun.

This classic game is part of the Virtual Console service, which brings you great games created for consoles such as NESâ„ĸ, Super NESâ„ĸ and Game Boyâ„ĸ Advance. See more Virtual Console games for Wii.

Review data for this game has not yet been added to the SEGA Universe rating system.

SEGA Universe ratings are built from the review sources available for each game.

Community reviews are submitted by SEGA Universe members and use a 5-star rating system.

SEGA Universe reviews are editorial reviews written specifically for the site and may contribute to a game’s overall score.

For games originally released on classic SEGA platforms such as the Master System, Mega Drive (Genesis), Saturn and Dreamcast, historical magazine reviews may be used to provide contemporary critic scores from the time of release. These scores are normalised to a 100-point scale before being included in the rating.

For newer releases, Metacritic scores may be used when historical critic reviews are not available.

Not every game uses the same review sources. Some games may only have community reviews, while others combine community reviews, SEGA Universe reviews and critic scores.

Each available review source contributes equally to the final rating.
