Game Overview

Panzer Dragoon is a rail shooter developed by Team Andromeda and published by SEGA for the Sega Saturn in 1995. Set in a mysterious post-apocalyptic world filled with ancient ruins, dangerous creatures and forgotten technology, players take control of a young hunter who forms an unlikely bond with a powerful dragon.

Riding across deserts, canyons, oceans and floating cities, players battle waves of enemies using a combination of lock-on targeting and rapid-fire attacks while exploring one of the most distinctive fantasy worlds of the 32-bit era. The game’s cinematic presentation, orchestral soundtrack and striking visual design helped establish Panzer Dragoon as one of the Saturn’s defining titles.

Upon release, Panzer Dragoon received widespread critical acclaim for its atmosphere, graphics and originality. The game would go on to spawn several sequels, including Panzer Dragoon II Zwei, Panzer Dragoon Saga and Panzer Dragoon Orta, becoming one of SEGA’s most respected and influential franchises.

Today, Panzer Dragoon remains celebrated as a landmark Sega Saturn release and a showcase of the creativity and ambition that defined SEGA during the 1990s.

SEGA Universe ratings are built from the review sources available for each game.

Community reviews are submitted by SEGA Universe members and use a 5-star rating system.

SEGA Universe reviews are editorial reviews written specifically for the site and may contribute to a game’s overall score.

For games originally released on classic SEGA platforms such as the Master System, Mega Drive (Genesis), Saturn and Dreamcast, historical magazine reviews may be used to provide contemporary critic scores from the time of release. These scores are normalised to a 100-point scale before being included in the rating.

For newer releases, Metacritic scores may be used when historical critic reviews are not available.

Not every game uses the same review sources. Some games may only have community reviews, while others combine community reviews, SEGA Universe reviews and critic scores.

Each available review source contributes equally to the final rating.
