10 Underrated SEGA Games You Should Play

  Share:

SEGA has produced some of the most beloved games in history, from Sonic the Hedgehog to Yakuza and Virtua Fighter. However, hidden beneath the company’s biggest successes are dozens of fantastic titles that never received the attention they deserved.

Whether they were released on less popular systems, overshadowed by bigger franchises, or simply arrived at the wrong time, these games remain well worth playing today.

1. Skies of Arcadia

The Dreamcast produced many classics, but Skies of Arcadia remains one of its finest achievements. This role-playing adventure follows a group of sky pirates exploring a world of floating continents, airship battles and ancient mysteries.

With memorable characters, a fantastic soundtrack and a unique setting, it’s often considered one of the greatest RPGs SEGA has ever published.

2. Astal

Released on the Sega Saturn, Astal is a beautiful side-scrolling platform game that showcased the system’s ability to handle stunning 2D visuals.

Players take control of Astal as he journeys through a colourful fantasy world filled with enemies, puzzles and impressive hand-drawn artwork. Despite its quality, the game was largely overlooked outside Japan.

3. Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master

While many players remember the original Shinobi games, Shinobi III deserves far more recognition.

Featuring fast-paced action, challenging platforming and some of the best animation seen on the Mega Drive, it remains one of the strongest action games on the system.

4. Gunstar Heroes
